Seal of Biliteracy

Students across the country are being recognized for their multilingualism and multiliteracy skills. Join DRC in celebrating your students’ achievements with the national Seal of Biliteracy and Pathway Awards!

DRC and the Seal of Biliteracy/Pathway Awards Programs

DRC is proud to support the Seal of Biliteracy initiative and national movement for districts and states to recognize and award students who have attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. DRC also supports states and districts who are instituting a Bilingual/Multilingual Pathway Awards program, as students take significant steps towards developing biliteracy from preschool to high school.

We offer a dedicated test window for both the Seal of Biliteracy and Pathway Awards program goals and initiatives, using LAS Links Español to measure student proficiency skills in language and literacy in Spanish.

Using LAS Links as a Measure of Biliteracy

LAS Links® is a language proficiency assessment approved in many states and districts as a tool for awarding the Seal of Biliteracy and Pathway Awards. Specifically, LAS Links Español is a standardized assessment that provides evidence of Spanish language proficiency for both native and non-native speakers in the four domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (Escuchando, Hablando, Lectura y Escritura). LAS Links also offers English language proficiency assessments, which can be used to measure whether English learners meet state- or district-specific criteria for earning Pathway Awards and the Seal of Biliteracy.

Seal of Biliteracy and Pathway Awards Customer Success Stories

Elbert County School District in Georgia
Elbert County High School’s Emma Grace Jarvis, Keivin Renteria-Saldivar, and Lizzy Landaverde were the first students to receive the new Seal of Biliteracy from the Georgia Department of Education. These Foreign Language Pathway Completer students sat for the LAS Links Español online assessment completely in Spanish to prove their proficiency in the language, as well as maintaining specific grades in their ELA courses throughout high school.
Santa Fe High School 2018
Santa Fe South High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Data Recognition Corporation piloted LAS Links Español in the summer of 2018 at Santa Fe South High School. Twenty-six of the students who participated in the pilot program were awarded the Seal of Biliteracy. One of those students shifted between American and Mexican cultures. Her first language was Spanish, and they didn’t let her speak it in school, so she had to learn English. She realized that obtaining the Seal of Biliteracy and becoming bilingual could provide new educational and career opportunities.
